FTSE 100 Reaches All-Time High on Tech and Luxury Sector Gains
Analysts credit strong corporate earnings and renewed investor confidence
The FTSE 100 index has reached an all-time high, driven by robust performance in the technology and luxury goods sectors. The milestone, which sees the index surpass 8,500 points for the first time, has been welcomed by investors who have endured years of volatile markets.
Leading the gains are British luxury brands with strong international sales, particularly in Asia, and technology companies benefiting from the AI revolution. Several mid-cap firms have also performed exceptionally, with the FTSE 250 showing its strongest quarterly performance in five years.
"This is a moment of genuine optimism for British markets," said a chief economist at a major investment bank. "Corporate earnings are strong, inflation is moderating, and there's growing confidence in the UK's economic trajectory."
Fund managers report increased inflows from both domestic and international investors, with UK equities increasingly viewed as undervalued compared to American and European counterparts. Dividend yields remain attractive, particularly in the energy and financial sectors.
However, geopolitical uncertainties and the potential for interest rate changes mean that volatility could return. Wealth advisers recommend diversified portfolios that balance equity exposure with bonds, property, and alternative assets.
