Editorial Guidelines

Adopted: January 2023 | Reviewed: May 2026

1. Our Editorial Mission

The Great British News is committed to producing accurate, fair, independent, and authoritative journalism about the forces shaping wealth, business, and prosperity in Britain and around the world.

Our journalism must be in the public interest. We aim to inform, challenge, and hold powerful institutions and individuals to account, while treating all subjects of our reporting with fairness and proportionality.

2. Accuracy and Verification

Every factual claim in our journalism must be verified by at least one reliable source. Where possible, we seek corroboration from a second independent source, particularly for claims that are contentious, serious, or novel.

We distinguish clearly between:

  • News reporting: Factual accounts of events and developments, attributed to named or clearly described sources
  • Analysis: Contextualised reporting that draws on expert opinion and background knowledge, clearly labelled as analysis
  • Opinion and commentary: The views of writers or external commentators, always clearly labelled as opinion

3. Sources and Attribution

We attribute all factual claims to their sources. Where sources request anonymity, we will grant it only when there is a genuine and legitimate reason for doing so — typically because revealing the source's identity would place them at professional or personal risk.

We will not publish claims that rely solely on anonymous sources unless those claims are of significant public interest and we have made reasonable efforts to attribute them on the record.

We never pay sources for information.

4. Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Our editorial decisions are made independently of commercial considerations, including advertising relationships. Advertisers have no influence over the content of our editorial coverage.

Writers are required to disclose any personal or financial interest in the subjects they cover. Where such conflicts exist, alternative writers will be assigned.

Paid, sponsored, or commercial content is clearly labelled as such and is entirely separate from our editorial output.

5. Corrections Policy

We take corrections seriously. If we have made a factual error in any published article, we will correct it promptly, clearly, and transparently.

  • Minor errors of fact are corrected in the article with an editor's note explaining what was changed
  • Significant errors are corrected with a prominent correction notice at the top of the article
  • In cases where an error is so serious that the article requires substantial revision, we will append a full corrections note and notify anyone significantly affected

To report an error, please email corrections@tgbnews.co.uk. We acknowledge all corrections requests within 48 hours.

6. Privacy and the Private Individual

We recognise that public figures who have voluntarily entered public life have reduced privacy expectations in relation to their public roles. However, all individuals — including public figures — retain a private sphere that we will respect.

We will not publish material about private aspects of a person's life unless it is directly relevant to the public interest of the story we are reporting, and the person's reasonable expectation of privacy is outweighed by that public interest.
